The Bahá'í International Community registered with the UN as an
international non-governmental organization (NGO) in 1948. It enjoys
consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and
the United Nations Children's Fund and working relations with several
other UN agencies. Bahá'ís are active throughout the world in numerous
networks and coalitions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), focusing
particularly on the advancement of the status of women, human rights,
issues of prosperity and economic justice, and moral development. They are
also deeply engaged in efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and joint
action with other faith communities.
